Mineral Resources (MinRes) has given grants to 13 Western Australian community organisations to support initiatives across different sectors.
The grants were as high as $10,000 and were part of the MinRes community grant program’s recent round of funding. Initiatives funded included a landscaping project and training volunteers.
MinRes general manager of communities and heritage Heath Nelson said the community grant program demonstrates the company’s commitment to supporting local WA communities.
“Through our community grant program, we support organisations operating in the Pilbara and Goldfields-Esperance regions and within the Shire of Yilgarn,” Nelson said.
“We are delighted these programs and initiatives will be enjoyed by everyone in the community, ensuring these towns continue to be great places to live, work and raise a family.”
WA organisation Marine Rescue Onslow (MRO), a member group of Volunteer Marine Rescue Western Australia, received a grant which vice commander Mike Chapman said would contribute to training two additional volunteers with the heavy rigid licences legally required to tow and launch its rescue vessels.
“MinRes’ unwavering generosity has given MRO the means to upskill our dedicated volunteers, allowing them to continue safely aiding community members when the unthinkable happens,” Chapman said.
“On behalf of the entire Onslow community, we’d like to thank MinRes for their support. Without them this aspect of our service would remain unfunded.”
Applications for the next round of community grant program funding are open until April 30.
Organisations can apply for funding of up to $10,000 to support programs and initiatives that are focusing on areas such as health, education, and Aboriginal engagement and environment.
