Mining industry on show

THE Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia (CME) is holding its inaugural ResourCity open day in Perth CBD on Friday 26 October 2007.

The open day will see some of the world’s largest companies, including Rio Tinto, BHP Billiton, Woodside and KPMG, host a number of free talks, events and activities in the CBD.

A ‘morning coffee’ promotion will be held on the day, providing free coffee for anyone submitting a copy of the ResourCity programme at selected coffee shops in the CBD.

Talks and tours will be held throughout the day, and include a tour of the Woodside community museum, a special display of BHP Billiton’s sponsorship of the Beijing Olympics, a talk on ‘greening’ the corporate office, and an indigenous cultural awareness bushwalk in Kings Park.

Other displays will include a Curtin University exhibition on its new Resources and Chemistry Precinct, Rio Tinto’s Colours of the Country art exhibition and a review of artists’ work from the Artopia festival. The day will conclude with a celebration sundowner at Central Park.

ResourCity is designed to promote the Perth CBD as a ‘Resources Quarter’ and the free wi-fi internet access that the resources sector has already established in the western end of the CBD.

ResourCity is part of the resources sector’s effort to make Perth a dynamic and attractive place to live and work.
