THE Chamber of Minerals and Energy of WA (CME) has released a new publication Indigenous Participation in Western Australia’s Resources Sector to highlight outstanding partnerships between the State’s resources sector and Indigenous communities.
CME Chief Executive Reg Howard-Smith said the release of the publication, which coincides with the State Government’s Indigenous Jobs Forum, demonstrated examples of the resources industry’s commitment to improving economic opportunities for Indigenous people in Western Australia.
“Economic partnerships between the resources sector and Indigenous communities are now a key feature of our industry and these are based on strong economic and social drivers — with mutual benefit being the clear goal,” Howard-Smith said.
“Operating in regional and remote locations, in a skills constrained environment, Indigenous people are also an integral part of the resources sector workforce”.
The publication offers a number of case studies from CME member companies operating around the State that highlight a diverse range of initiatives in the areas of employment, education and training, business development, community development, cultural awareness and heritage protection.
