QUEENSLAND Department of Mines and Energy Mines Inspectors have begun a formal investigation into the above-ground fire late Thursday afternoon at Boundary Hill open cut mine, which injured two men.
Boundary Hill is part of the Callide mine complex near Biloela.
Mines Safety and Health Executive Director Stewart Bell said three inspectors were currently at Boundary Hill.
“An investigation team has been formed by the mine. It consists of mine personnel, mines rescue personnel and a Department of Mines and Energy Mines Inspector who will be acting as an observer,” Mr said.
Bell said an investigation would also be conducted by the Mines Inspectorate.
“Three Simtars (Safety in mines testing and research station) engineers also will be on site on Sunday with a borehole camera and a thermal camera to assist with the investigation,” he said.
“There has been no determination at this time as to the cause of the accident.”
Bell said the area of the mine where the incident occurred remained sealed off and would not be reopened until the investigation was completed.
