Michael Wright appointed as CIMIC deputy CEO

Mining and construction contractor CIMIC Group has selected Thiess managing director Michael Wright as the new deputy CEO.

Wright, a civil engineer, joined CIMIC Group in 1998. He held roles managing construction, tunnelling and services teams and executive roles including leading Thiess’ Australian mining operations, Thiess’ services business and CIMIC Group’s China and Mongolia business.

Wright is currently CIMIC’s Mining and Mineral Processing executive.

CIMIC Group CEO Adolfo Valderas said during his career in the company, Wright gained extensive expertise in engineering, construction, tunnelling, industrial and environmental services, telecommunications, utilities and mining.

“Most recently, he successfully built on our company’s competitive strength in the resources sector, expanding and diversifying our mining operations into new commodities and geographies,” Valderas said.

“Michael’s appointment reflects these achievements and the confidence I have in his ability to support the leadership of CIMIC Group as we generate returns for shareholders by successfully delivering projects for our clients and providing safe, rewarding and fulfilling careers for our people.
