Metso is strengthening its position in the Australian mining sector by expanding its rubber and Poly-Met wear parts production capabilities.
This expansion will reinforce Metso’s role as the only mill liner manufacturer in the country while bolstering its customer service.
“Our customers have already responded very positively to the advantages of local support with our Karratha service centre, which was opened in 2024,” Asia Pacific president Stuart Sneyd said.
A new mega-class press is being installed at the company’s Canning Vale facility in Western Australia, designed specifically to produce large Megaliner mill liners. The press is expected to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2025 and marks a significant investment in local services and operational efficiency.
By producing critical wear parts closer to Australian mine sites, Metso aims to reduce lead times and provide faster, more tailored customer support.
The Canning Vale upgrade supports a more resilient and regionalised supply chain, boosting the local economy and enhancing service responsiveness.
“This investment strengthens our global footprint and ensures we continue to lead the way in mill lining technology,” Metso mill lining senior vice president Martin Karlsson said.
The mega-class press will manufacture Megaliners up to 4.5m by 3.2m, with weight capacity aligned to each customer’s installation limits. Larger and heavier liner production enables quicker and safer mill relines, increasing mill availability and operational output.
The capability to simultaneously produce multiple liners will drive manufacturing efficiency, reduce costs and further shorten delivery times.
The initiative also helps lower CO₂ emissions through a smaller transportation footprint, reflecting Metso’s commitment to sustainability in the mining sector.
