Macmahon Holdings has moved to replace its outgoing directors by reappointing former non-executive director, Vyril Vella.
The announcement follows last week’s news that non-executive chairman Jim Walker and non-executive director Kim Horne both stepped down from their roles.
Vella, who was previously a non-executive director of Macmahon for more than 10 years, will reclaim the same position as the company continues its process to appoint additional independent board members.
Having stepped down from the role in October last year, Vella’s tenure with Macmahon also included being chair of the company’s remuneration and nomination committee and a member of the audit and risk committee.
This means he is “uniquely placed to ensure Macmahon has the benefit of another independent non-executive director with significant long-term background on the business while further independent board appointments are made,” a company statement read.
Vella will also become a member of the company’s remuneration and nomination committee and audit and risk committee.
Interim chair of Macmahon, Eva Skira said it was pleasing to welcome back Vella to Macmahon.
“Vyril made a significant contribution to Macmahon during his previous tenure, and we are very pleased to have the benefit of his wealth of knowledge and experience while we continue our process to appoint additional independent non-executive directors,” she said.
“Vyril is well known for his robust independence, which was very publicly displayed during the CIMIC takeover offer for Macmahon in 2017.”
In addition to his experience at Macmahon, Vella also has extensive experience in the civil engineering, building, property and construction industries.
During his 34 years with the Leighton Group (now CIMIC), he held a number of positions including general manager of New South Wales, director of Leighton Contractors, managing director of Leighton Properties and associate director of Leighton Holdings.
