As 2019 commences, final preparations have started to freight a McLanahan Triple Roll Crusher on its journey to a customer in North Queensland.
When one of Queensland’s newest contract miners was seeking low-cost solutions for processing raw coking coal, McLanahan was always the first port of call.
“We have so many different crushing configuration options and have been offering innovation in the Bowen and Surat basins for so long,” says Brad Anstess, coal applications specialist, “I felt certain that we could accommodate the customer’s requirements.
“We worked directly with the customer to deliver a small-footprint, mobile-ready solution feeding around 350 tonnes per hour and sizing 500 millimetres down to 50 millimetres in a single unit,” Antess said.
“I recommended the Triple Roll Crusher because it’s a low-cost alternative — something that was critical for the customer. It’s two crushers in one machine. They are less expensive than two sizers and typically use lower energy per tonne crushed.
“The Triple Roll Crusher is excellent value for money — it has the ability to achieve a reduction ratio of 6:1 for primary crushing and down to 4:1 in secondary crushing.”
Engineered and designed locally, the McLanahan Triple Roll Crusher was assembled and tested in Newcastle using a purpose built test bed that allows quad, triple and double roll crushers (as well as Direct Drive Sizers) to be factory tested in the same location.
Triple and quad roll crushers are commonly used in coal crushing applications across the world with excellent outcomes in both product sizing and long term reliability. These machines are utilised across Asia, Europe and North America.
Antess reflected on the longevity of the McLanahan multi stage crushers: “I remember delivering the first triple roll coal crusher in the Bowen Basin to one of our great customers back in 2003.
“Our service team in Mackay really knows these machines well and has been servicing this customer for years. In 2018 we provided another Triple Roll Crusher to the same customer.”
This is one of many triple roll crushers sold in the region since 2003 and many more triple, quad and double roll crushers have since been delivered into China and Indonesia. Of course, McLanahan crushers go way back to the mid-1800s when McLanahan first invented the triple roll.
“We are very happy to help customers with innovative options when it comes to crushing and feeding,” said Antess. “This type of machine is one of many examples you can find in the region where we have helped smaller companies achieve good outcomes.”
