Liebherr has launched its new LMD 1200 mining dragline, introducing a purpose-built machine designed for wet and dry mining applications with a focus on productivity, mobility and operator comfort.
Presented during the 50th anniversary celebrations of Liebherr-Werk Nenzing GmbH in June 2026, the LMD 1200 is now available to customers worldwide.
The machine features a flexible boom system that can be configured to suit different operating conditions, while its maximum lifting capacity of 30 tonnes at a 40m working radius gives the model its 1200 designation.
Designed for continuous operation in demanding environments, the LMD 1200 features a robust steel construction intended to deliver high availability and a long service life in extreme weather conditions.
The dragline can be equipped with a bucket of up to 12.25 cubic metres and dig to depths of 25m. Liebherr said twin hydraulic motors automatically adjust winch speeds to match the required digging force, helping achieve optimum bucket filling, shorter working cycles and higher handling capacity.
The machine also incorporates a pivoting roller head fairlead and automatic positioning unit designed to reduce rope wear. A larger rope diameter, standard grooving and a new rope lock are intended to extend rope life while reducing downtime during rope changes.
Liebherr said the LMD 1200 combines engine power with reduced hydraulic pressure to deliver efficient operation with low fuel consumption. Its integrated 1000 L fuel tank and 8270 L additional tank enable continuous operation for up to one week without refuelling.
The dragline can be relocated around a mine with the boom lowered, while the entire 360 t machine can be assembled or disassembled within a week.
Operator comfort features include a noise-optimised cabin, all-round camera system, heated, cooled and ventilated orthopaedic seat, second training seat, air conditioning and lighting designed to support night operations. Liebherr application engineers will provide operator training to help customers maximise productivity in the field.
