Liebherr dozers join MACA fleet at Duketon

Three new Liebherr PR 776 G8 dozers have entered MACA’s mining fleet for the first time, marking a milestone in the contractor’s long-standing relationship with Liebherr-Australia and expanding the manufacturer’s presence in the Australian mining sector.

The machines were commissioned on May 30 and will operate at the Duketon Gold Project in Western Australia, which is operated by Regis Resources. The delivery also precedes the arrival of two Liebherr R 9300 excavators, which are scheduled to join MACA’s fleet in the second half of 2026.

Liebherr-Australia executive general manager of sales, marketing, training and solutions Brian Boitano said the latest delivery strengthened the partnership between the two companies.

“This latest delivery builds on our long-standing relationship with MACA and also represents an important step in increasing the presence of Liebherr dozers in the Australian market,” Boitano said.

MACA general manager of assets Luke Birkett said the new dozers would reinforce the relationship between MACA, parent company Thiess and Liebherr.

“The arrival of the three PR 776 dozers strengthens the partnership between Thiess, MACA and Liebherr,” Birkett said.

“A significant amount of work has gone into planning and delivering a smooth transition to site, and I’d like to acknowledge the efforts of everyone involved. Our long-standing partnership with Liebherr has supported projects in Australia and internationally, and we look forward to continuing that relationship into the future.”

The PR 776 G8 was unveiled at MINExpo 2024 as the successor to Liebherr’s G6 flagship mining dozer. The company said it remains the world’s largest hydrostatic dozer, capable of moving more material than other machines in its class while consuming less fuel.

The updated G8 model also features a new electronic architecture designed to support a broader range of Liebherr technology products and future machine developments.

Looking ahead, Liebherr-Australia will deliver two 250-tonne-class R 9300 excavators to MACA later this year for deployment at operations in Western Australia’s Mid West.

“Both the PR 776 G8s and R 9300s have shown huge advantage to Liebherr customers worldwide, and I’m excited to see the positive impact these machines will have on the MACA operations,” Boitano said.
