Leighton Contractors has landed a $160 million contract extension at Macarthur Coal’s Moorvale project in central Queensland.
Leighton will complete the majority of surface mining at the project, which is located 156km south-west of Mackay in the Bowen Basin.
The company will also commission, manage and operate Macarthur Coal’s new mining fleet.
Leighton general manager Steven Keyser said the four-year contract extension will add value to the operation and allow production to continue at current rates.
Moorvale contains an estimated 40Mt of low-volatile pulverised coal, which is expected to be fully recovered by 2016.
