Komatsu and Telstra have signed an extension to their technology partnerships that will help develop the machinery manufacturer’s ICT and M2M strategy.
The deal, with $23 million over the next three years, extends a 15 year partnership, and sees Telstra provide the communications capacities and strategic ICT services, such as machine to machine (M2M) and cloud technologies, to help Komatsu’s with its innovation strategies.
These capacities include voice, data, mobile, and IoT services.
Komatsu Australia CEO Sean Taylor said these partnerships are helping the company to stay ahead of the curve.
“We’re excited about the next phase in our ICT strategy and look forward to many more years of innovation,” Taylor said.
Martijn Blanken, Telstra Global Enterprise and Services chief customer officer added: “Komatsu has consistently been an early adopter of technology, and this new agreement is further evidence of its continued innovation strategy.”
It is part of the company’s wider shift to a hybrid cloud solution
The agreement helps Komatsu build upon its recent M2M connectivity trials, which allowed for a ‘zero touch’ remote download of around 700 on site machines’ operational diagnostic data from Komatsu’s inSite Centre in Sydney, in real time, for increased fleet and production efficiency.
The new solution will include a dedicated private cloud with native integration into Microsoft Azure for storage and additional workload deployments.
As part of the new platform deployment Komatsu will also enhance its disaster recovery capability with automated services to improve the recovery time objective, reducing risk to the company.
