Journalist fellowship program

BUDDING journalists from rural and regional Australia have visited Canberra under the fifth annual Journalist Fellowship Program (JFP).

The JFP is a joint initiative between the Minerals Council of Australia (MCA), the Department of Industry Tourism and Resources (DITR) and the Department of the Senate where young journalists observe public policy events. JFP participants will be involved in the MCA’s Minerals Week 2007 seminars and forums, sittings of the Federal Parliament, DITR and MCA policy briefings, and the MCA annual dinner.

Participants will meet members of parliament, senators, senior public servants, minerals industry leaders and national media representatives.

The four day program offers journalists from rural and regional areas a professional development opportunity to gain first hand experience of the workings and interaction of national political, government and representational structures.

The 2007 participants are Matt East, Georgia Loney, James O’Loan, Colleen O’Sullivan, Phillipa Prior and Daniel Bateman.
