PILBARA based industries, governments and local communities are attempting to increase Indigenous participation in the local economy.
The Pilbara Industry’s Community Council (PICC) aims to overcome gaps in education, training, healthcare and accommodation, which present obstacles to Indigenous members of the community.
PICC is an industry initiative established by the Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia (CME) and partners BHP Billiton, Chevron, Rio Tinto, NWSV and Woodside, with a commitment to work in collaboration with government and Pilbara communities.
PICC principals met in Perth recently with State Development Minister Eric Ripper, and Federal Vocational and Further Education Minister Andrew Robb.
