IMARC 2024: A global hub for mining innovation and collaboration

Global mining leaders are converging on Sydney for the 2024 International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC), set to take place from October 29–31 at ICC Sydney.

With record-breaking attendance, over 600 speakers, and more than 9000 delegates, IMARC has solidified its reputation as a premier industry event.

The conference, spanning 20,000m² of exhibition space, will showcase the latest in mining equipment, innovation, and technology, offering a packed agenda of speeches, panels, and demonstrations.

“Austmine is proud to be a founding partner of IMARC, and we are very pleased to be celebrating over 10 years of success,” Austmine director membership, marketing and events Vanessa Haberland said.

“IMARC emerged from the necessity to establish a major mining event in Australia … Over the years it has not only met but exceeded this objective.”

IMARC’s focus on innovation and sustainability draws stakeholders from more than 120 countries, featuring co-located events with partners like the European Union and World Economic Forum.

“As a founding partner of IMARC and a peak body for resources professionals, AusIMM looks forward to welcoming thousands of delegates to Sydney for Australia’s largest mining event,” AusIMM chief executive officer (CEO) Stephen Durkin said.

“We are thrilled that over 130 AusIMM members are featured in the program, shaping conversations on innovative technologies, ESG (environmental, social and governance) best practice and mining’s central role in the global energy transition.”

The Plenary Theatre, sponsored by Newmont, will be an agenda-setting platform, with notable speakers such as Fortescue CEO Dino Otranto and South32 CEO Graham Kerr addressing ESG and sustainability goals.

Holly Ransom, the event’s Plenary MC, will lead a keynote session featuring industry figures like Jake Klein and Leanne Heywood.

IMARC’s extensive conference program covers critical themes, from digital transformation to energy transition.

Notable sessions include a discussion on AI’s (artificial intelligence) impact in mining by Mark O’Brien of CITIC Pacific Mining and an exploration of space and AI by Fleet Space Technologies’ CEO Flavia Tata Nardini.

“It is great to see IMARC back in Sydney for a third consecutive year – its biggest yet, and the largest professional business event on Sydney’s packed 2024 calendar,” Business Events Sydney CEO Lyn Lewis-Smith said.

“The conference program facilitates vital conversations on ESG reporting and circularity, showcasing to the world how Australia is transitioning its economy.

“Our research shows that as well as generating an estimated $17.8 million of direct expenditure into the NSW economy from the thousands of delegates gathering in Sydney for three days, world-leading business events like IMARC 2024 are also a platform for collaboration, innovation and attracting investment and talent.”
