Health and safety a priority as IMARC is postponed

IMARC will host more than 7500 attendees from over 100 countries at Sydney’s International Convention Centre from 2–4 November.

The eighth International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC) due to go ahead at the end of the month has been postponed.

Beacon Events, the organisers of IMARC, announced that due to the significant rise of COVID-19 cases in recent weeks, the event will be rescheduled.

“The health, safety and wellbeing of our attendees and employees remains our number one priority, rescheduling the event originally planned for 31 January to 2 February is the responsible action to take in the current circumstances,” IMARC managing director Anita Richards said.

The IMARC team is currently getting in touch with the hundreds of companies confirmed to sponsor and exhibit at the event and the thousands of attendees that were confirmed to participate, to advise them of the unfortunate cancellation and discuss the dates for rescheduling.

“Considering the health and safety of our members, delegates, and staff, we support postponing IMARC,” Austmine chief executive officer Christine Gibbs Stewart said.

“We know how important this event is to our members who are exhibiting and attending, as well as the METS sector overall, and we encourage everyone to consider this as an opportunity to refocus your efforts and support the event.”

Beacon Events notes that it appreciates the continued patronage and support of the mining and resources sector, as well as IMARC’s founding partners the Victorian Government, Austmine, AusIMM and Mines and Money, and is grateful for the feedback received in the lead up to making this difficult decision.

“Australia’s largest annual mining and resources event, the Melbourne-based IMARC, will now take place later in 2022 with the same great opportunities to connect local businesses with the global resources sector,” Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions head of resources John Krbaleski said.

IMARC is expected to announce the rescheduled dates within the coming weeks.
