Green tick of approval for Browns Range

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) Delegate has given Northern Minerals the go-ahead for strategic amendments at its Browns Range rare earths project in Western Australia.

The approval includes a 60-hectare expansion of the project to incorporate renewable energy infrastructure such as wind turbines and solar farm.

Northern Minerals chief operating officer Angela Glover said this would enhance the company’s existing sustainability objectives.

“This EPA approval is an important step forward for Northern Minerals as we progress the Browns Range project towards its full potential,” Glover said.

“The integration of renewable energy infrastructure and the enhancements to our development strategy not only align with our commitment to sustainability but also strengthens our operational capabilities.”

The approval also allows for further modifications to the site, including realignment of access roads, improved drainage and the installation of more groundwater bores.

Northern Minerals will continue to work closely with the Ringer Soak community and the Jaru and Tjurabalan traditional owners to align the access road with the community’s preferences, further reducing potential risks and environmental impacts.

“We are grateful for the continued support of the local communities, and we remain dedicated to delivering a project that benefits both the environment and our stakeholders,” Glover said.
