Federal resources minister Gary Gray will keep his portfolio under a Rudd run Labor government.
Kevin Rudd’s new ministry will be sworn in at Government House at 2pm today.
Former environment minister Tony Burke will take over Brendan O’Connor’s immigration portfolio, and Mark Butler will leave his mental health portfolio behind to tackle climate change, environment, heritage and water.
Gray has been labelled one of Rudd’s harshest critics but last week agreed to serve under a Rudd cabinet despite previously declaring he didn’t think Rudd had the strength to return to the top job.
A vocal Gillard supporter Gray now says he is being "practical and pragmatic", and wants to get on with the business of campaigning, ABC reports.
"My comments on Friday were heartfelt comments. They were made in the heat of anger and frustration," Gray said.
"What I have to deal with now is a decision by my colleagues to change the leadership of the Labor Party and my decision in that context is to stay as the Resources Minister."
In his comments last week, Gray said "Kevin Rudd can spread confusion, create torment, he can get himself into the media, but he can't govern, he doesn't have the courage and the strength that's required".
