A lightning strike caused a massive fire at FMG’s Christmas Creek mine in the Pilbara overnight.
It is unclear how many people were evacuated from camp, but photos show hundreds of employees lining up to get on waiting buses.
A spokesperson for FMG said no one was injured as a result of the fire which was under control by about 9:30 pm.
Operations and production at the mine have continued as normal.
“Fortescue has established plans in place and takes appropriate precautions in dealing with Pilbara bushfires, which are common at this time of year,” the spokesperson said.
In October FMG was forced to evacuate its Cloudbreak mine camp due to a bushfire threat.
