Fire at Rio’s Hail Creek coal mine

A small fire broke out at Rio Tinto’s Queensland Hail Creek coal mine on Thursday.

The electrical fire began in an engine on the wheel of a dump truck, according to the Daily Mercury.
There were no injuries.

A Rio spokesperson told the Daily Mercury “it was a very minor incident; onsite personnel carried out the appropriate safety procedures and extinguished the fire.”

The mine remained open.
