A PILOT strike in Western Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory may cost the mining industry millions, according to the Australian Mines and Metals Association (AMMA).
About 70 pilots are threatening strike action in a push for collective employment agreements instead of individual contracts.
The pilots are aligned with the Transport Workers Union (TWU) and have voted to strike in pursuit of their claim.
Tony Caccamo from the AMMA said if 48-hour stoppages occur many mining workers will be affected.
“I would say it would be in the millions in terms of the potential impact on productivity, but that will be dependant on what arrangements the companies have got in place,” he said.
