Highly effective support system for reducing vibration and noise when installing pipes and tubes

STAUFF is pleased to present the NRC-type clamps (Noise Reduction Clamp) for reducing noise and vibration in installations of pipes and tubes with outside diameters between 6 and 88.9 mm or ¼ to 3 ½”.

The working principle is based on polyamide clamp bodies following the Standard Series according to DIN 3015, Part 1 with a specially shaped, two-part elastomer insert, which mechanically absorbs vibrations in the pipe hence the result is that it reduces noise. The insert’s design ensures minimal surface contact with the pipe and clamp body, and as a result is far more effective than the conventional profiled or smooth bore pipe clamp. The design of the insert and body is a tongue & groove contour which is reversed and thus diverges from DIN 3015. This enables the system to be used for the widest possible range of pipe diameters per clamp size, which also provides a more flexible and versatile clamping of the pipe.

This patented system combines the absorbing properties of the clamp. Due to the functional design the possibilities of DIN 3015 specification have been expanded without deviating from the dimensions. The advantage is that the NRC clamp system is completely compatible with the commonly used steel or stainless steel mounting hardware available in the STAUFF range.

Typical applications include mobile and stationary machinery, as well as transport vehicles (road, rail and sea), however principally in the field of civil marine shipping, i.e. on cruise ships, yachts and sport boats, effective noise damping has become critically important in the design of on-board machinery, devices and systems, and selecting the NRC clamp, it contributes to improving the overall comfort during the operation of the vessel as well as facilitates in minimizing noise interference for communication on-board.

Ship owners and shipping yards around the world are increasingly following this trend and are putting reduced thresholds for noise and vibrations in place. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has also dealt with the determination of noise thresholds, e.g. for engine and control rooms, crew quarters, the reduction of underwater noise, further reducing noise emissions in order to protect the environment.

The rising demands of industry on the reduction of noise emissions for mobile and stationary applications in harbour and loading areas as well as other areas of use is equally relevant, also against the background of the cross-industry guidelines of the “Outdoor Directive” 2000/14/EC (“Noise emission in the environment by equipment for use outdoors”) and the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.

Apart from the regular NRC-type clamps, STAUFF also provides a version especially for use in safety-critical areas, which is made completely out of flame resistant materials according to international standards and directives, and meets the demanding requirements with regards to preventive fire protection.

In addition, all of the materials used by STAUFF are distinguished by their outstanding properties and durability, e.g. against seawater, mineral oil and other oils, as well as suitable for a wide range of temperatures.

STAUFF has been developing, producing and marketing hydraulic fluid components and accessories for over 50 years, with the manufacturing and design headquartered in Germany and products distributed in more than 40 countries through a global network. Having been present in Australia for over four decades, STAUFF has branches in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Wollongong. The company’s sales and distribution offices are also supported through a national network of authorised distributors and stockists.

STAUFF’s products provide port-to-port solutions, from the component level, filter systems and filter elements for fluid media, pressure test systems, hydraulic accessories, flanges, tube connectors and quick release couplings, clamping systems for pipes, hoses and cables, machined parts through to value-adding services.

While manufacturing and design are carried out in Germany, we also offer value-added services in Australia. So if you buy components such as tubes and clamps from us, we offer value-added services such as assembling the parts, bending tubes, forming and custom system-build solutions.

STAUFF facilities and products are covered by Quality and Performance approvals from Lloyd’s Register QA, SAI Global, Bureau Veritas, DNV GL.
