Glencore announces that its IsaMill technology has been selected by Sumitomo Metal Mining Pogo LLC for their Pogo Mine operation in Alaska, USA.
A technology with a proven track record of improving metal recovery and energy efficiency, IsaMill will be implemented at Pogo Mine’s Inline Leach Reactor (ILR) circuit, where it will finely grind the ILR residue from 240 microns to a product of 25 microns (P80) to improve gold recovery in the downstream leaching process.
According to Greg Rasmussen, Glencore Technology’s Process and Business Development Manager – Americas, IsaMill offers a more energy efficient solution than alternative grinding technologies, providing improved sustainability outcomes for mining operations around the world. He added that the IsaMill technology has been successfully used commercially in concentrator plants for over two decades.
The Pogo Mine operation utilised the IsaMill Signature Plot procedure supported by a certified commercial laboratory to ensure accurate scale-up. Globally recognised for their ability to determine the required energy parameters for fine/ultrafine grinding of ores using the technology, IsaMill Signature Plot tests are also used to accurately size and design IsaMill grinding circuits across the world.
Located northwest of Delta Junction, Alaska, Pogo Mine is operated by Sumitomo Metal Mining Company in a joint venture with Sumitomo Corporation. The mine produces approximately 330,000 ounces of gold annually.
