FIVE companies from Western Australia’s resources sector are in line to receive a Golden Gecko Award — Western Australia’s Department of Industry and Resources mineral and petroleum industry environmental award.
AngloGold Ashanti Australia, BHP Billiton, Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline (with Alinta Asset Management), Alcoa World Alumina and Rio Tinto Iron Ore have all entered the awards.
Department of Industry and Resources director general Jim Limerick said the Golden Gecko Awards have helped improve environmental standards in the resources sector.
“The Golden Geckos are a true reward for excellence in environmental management, regardless of how large or small the project is,” he said.
Golden Geckos are awarded to any nomination unanimously considered by the selection committee to have completely satisfied all the rigorous criteria involved.
Since the awards started in 1992, 44 projects have received a Golden Gecko Award while 37 projects have been awarded Certificate of Merits.
