Electrical engineering group O’Donnell Griffin (ODG) has been awarded a $13.5 million rail signalling contract for the Pilbara region.
O’Donnell Griffin signed the contract with BHP Billiton covering the installation of new rail signalling and track side communications systems at the Newman Hub as well as at the Satellite mine sites of Jimblebar and OB25.
The signalling and communications work on the project should be completed by mid 2009.
The off site fabrications works began late March 2008.
The RGP4 works follow on from the contracts previously awarded to O’Donnell Griffin for the RGP 1, 2 and 3 Projects as part of the BHP Billiton’s Iron Ore drive to 155MTPA.
ODG contracts for ADP/CEP “RGP1” and associated works were $6.9 million; for RGP2 it was $21.7 million, and for RGP3 it was $10.8 million.
O’Donnell Griffin’s Western Australian Rail manager David Hargreaves said the contract by BHP Billiton Iron Ore provided the company with the opportunity to demonstrate commitment to achieving a clients expansion goals.
“Winning four consecutive projects with BHP Billiton reinforce ODG’s strength in the rail signalling industry, especially in the industrial mining sector in WA.
“It also means ODG has been able to mature over the first three stages to ensure further success in its performance and delivery on RGP4.”
O’Donnell Griffin is part of the Electrical & Communications division of Norfolk.
