THE latest report from Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE) has record spending on advanced minerals and energy projects, with $43.4 billion of expenditure on 279 projects.

The report states that the current climate of increased production the professional skills requirements of mining operations are significant.

The successful attraction and retention of mission critical staff can make the difference when it comes to keeping project timelines on track and meeting production targets, according to the Bureau.

Meanwhile for professionals in the minerals sector, the present commodities boom represents an unprecedented era of opportunity, with significant salary increases and job opportunities, according to the bureau report.

The report has been released at the same time as the 2007 Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy Remuneration and Employment Survey 2007, the most comprehensive survey of employment trends affecting professionals in the minerals sector.
