The Queensland Mines Inspectorate says mining community, including manufacturers and suppliers, must be aware of earth fault current limiter parameters in underground coal mines, and the requirements of the Australian Standard for such parameters.
“Possible hazards from low power factor neutral connected current limitation must be considered in the development of a coal mine’s safety and health management system,” the Inspectorate said.
“Independent engineering advice may be required to confirm that risk is at an acceptable level.”
According to the Inspectorate, all such neutral connected impedances in service should be checked for compliance with the relevant Australian Standard AS/NZS 2081.5:2002, which is referenced in the Department of Mines and Energy www.dme.qld.gov.au/mines/safety_information___bulletins.cfm
