A CONTRACT mining company has designed a rig with features that would eliminate many of the hazards often associated with surface reverse circulation drilling.
The Swick design includes a hydraulically-operated rod handling system to both load and unload drill rods into and out of the drill mast, eliminating the need for colleagues to manually handle drill rods.
The company’s design has rotated the drill mast 90 degrees so that the drill head and spindle are at the side of the mast.
The rig also features an inline handler, remote operator controls, dust suppression, and a remote compressor truck.
