Bilfinger Berger Services has invested $1 million in a power facility expansion, the company’s managing director Mark Elliott told MINING DAILY.
The construction and asset management contractor said the $1 million expansion of its business operations in the Hunter Valley will create 25 new jobs and put them in a strong position for reinvigorated growth.
Elliott said the company was taking a long-term view on the Hunter economy.
“While the economic outlook for 2009 may be uncertain, we believe prosperity will soon return to this region and we intend to be in a strong position to service a reinvigorated market,” Elliott said.
“Our view is that coal mining, power production and population growth will continue to drive the Hunter economy, requiring rising investment in new or updated infrastructure.”
“The Hunter houses some of the country’s core industries and we want to be a part of that hub.”
The contractor’s new operation is a power and telecommunications network maintenance depot at Tomago, set up to service several contracts with Energy Australia and other clients in the region.
Last week, Bilfinger won the 2009 Contractor Excellence Award at the Infrastructure Partnerships Australia awards dinner.
