THE New South Wales (NSW) coal boom is set to continue with several major new coal developments approved. The NSW Government has granted development approval for two major new coal developments: the $240 million Anvil Hill open cut coal project near Denman in the upper Hunter Valley, and the $83 million Abel underground coal mine near Maitland.
At full production the Anvil Hill mine is expected to produce over 10 Mtpa of coal, with the Abel Coal mine expected to produce around 4.5 Mtpa of coal at full production.
The State Government has also approved a major expansion to the Liddell coal mine, north-west of Singleton, worth around $91 million.
Moolarben coal mine project near Mudgee in the Western Coalfields of NSW has also been approved by the State Government.
At full production, the $405 million mine is expected to produce up to 12 Mtpa of coal.
