THE Queensland Resources Council (QRC) will commission a review of central Queensland’s Goonyella coal chain to address performance and ‘mine to port’ efficiency shortcomings.
QRC chief executive Michael Roche said unravelling the complexity of the coal supply chain demanded an expert assessment, supported by all stakeholders.
“All Goonyella coal chain participants — the coal miners, rail and port operators — have agreed to support the appointment of an expert consultant to examine the coal chain’s performance and identify opportunities to overcome identified system constraints,” Roche said.
“All parties on the supply chain have a common interest in maximising the reliable throughput of coal to customers,” he said.
International customers are the mainstay of the $18 billion a year Queensland coal industry.
Roche said the review would focus on every aspect of the movement of coal from mine gates in the Bowen Basin to ship loading at Dalrymple Bay.
