Bush fire threatens GlencoreXstrata’s Mangoola coal mine

A bushfire is raging out of control this afternoon near GlencoreXstrata’s Mangoola coal mine.

The New South Wales Rural Fire Service has issued an emergency warning for the Blackjack Mountain fire, West of Musswellbrook near Wybong Road.

Currently the bush fire is burning over 289 hectares.

The fire is currently about three kilometres from the mine, a GlencoreXstrata spokesperson told Australian Mining.

A number of Mangoola employees are assisting with fire fighting efforts, volunteering with the local brigade.

Water storage facilities at the mine are also being used to fill up helicopters which are water bombing the blaze.

The hot and windy conditions are limiting operations at the coal mine today.
