Boost for Pilbara planning

THE Western Australian Planning Commission has appointed two senior strategic planners — Jim and Wanda Kaucz — based in Karratha to help accelerate approvals processes for residential, commercial and industrial development in the Pilbara.

The pair relocated from Canberra and both have more than 34 years experience in urban and regional planning.

Mr Kaucz’s skills included structure planning, residential planning and subdivision design, development control plans and tourism and recreation planning.

Wanda Kaucz has a background in change management, strategic planning, project management and community engagement.

The new planners priorities will be to help accelerate land release and subdivision approvals, as well as planning for future community and infrastructure needs, according to the WA Government.

They will also be working with local governments and communities on structure plans for Onslow and Karratha and assisting with the South Hedland Townsite Redevelopment Project.

The new planners will also work to promote sustainable growth of Pilbara communities, including Port Hedland and Newman, by helping plan for development opportunities when the current rapid resources led growth slows, the Government said.

The new planners began working in the Pilbara during July and are based at the Department for Planning and Infrastructure’s regional office in Karratha.
