Global tungsten producer EQ Resources has appointed Michael Nossal as an independent non-executive chair, succeeding Oliver Kleinhempel as of March 31.
Recently serving as chair of battery and metals for IGO Limited, EQ Resources (EQR) said Nossal brings deep mining industry experience focused on strategy and business development across a wide range of commodities and geographies, including senior roles at Newcrest, MMG, and WMC Resources.
“I am excited to join EQR at this important stage of the company’s development,” Nossal said.
“The current board, led by Oliver and new management led by Craig Bradshaw, has done an incredible job of transforming the assets and strengthening the balance sheet.
“This leaves EQR poised to grow just as market conditions for tungsten start to reflect the positive underlying fundamentals.”
Kleinhempel said as the company’s position in the global tungsten market evolves, so too must its board, with the transformation beginning in 2025.
“I am pleased to welcome Michael to the board; his deep mining industry experience will be valuable to EQR as we assess the strategic optionality and growth potential provided by the current market environment in tungsten,” he said.
In June 2025, the miner announced an 86 per cent tungsten recovery at the revitalised Wolfram Camp project in far north Queensland, with EQR then gearing to revitalise the site after acquiring it in 2023.
Building on this momentum, Kleinhempel said he is looking forward to working with Nossal as EQR continues to “add the right ingredients” for long-term value.
In the meantime, EQR said it is expecting to announce further board changes over the coming months as it looks to evolve into a mid-tier mining company, ensuring that the board reflects the “skills and experience” required to support growth.
As for Nossal, his sights are set ahead, eager to bolster EQR’s tungsten position on the global stage.
“I look forward to working with this board and management to continue EQR’s transformation and deliver value to all our stakeholders,” he said.
