More miners at BMA’s coal mines have been hospitalised following exposure to blast fumes.
BMA has confirmed that several miners from the Peak Downs coal mine were taken to hospital on Saturday after they were exposed to fumes following blasting at the adjacent Saraji coal mine, according to the ABC.
BMA said the workers were well outside the shot firing exclusion zone and more than ten kilometers from the blast.
The incident comes as QLD mining minister Stirling Hinchliffe announced the creation of a steering group to investigate post blast fume events and to minimise these gas fumes during blasting operations.
This steering group was brought together after blasting was put on hold after two previous shot firing incidents at BMA’s Saraji and Peak Down coal mines where miners were exposed to toxic blast fumes.
