The 2018 Women in Industry Awards took place in Sydney last night in a celebration of female achievement across a host of industries, including traditionally male-dominated industries such as mining.
The Awards, now in its fifth year, saw a strong showing of nominees; the most directly mining-focused award of the night, the Excellence in Mining Award, was won by BHP’s Jacqui McGill, outgoing asset president at the company’s multi-commodity Olympic Dam operation in South Australia.
McGill won the award against strong competition from Rose Lindner, environmental advisor at Diversified Minerals, and Sabina Shugg, founder and chair of Women in Mining Western Australia.
April Whittam, brand and sponsorship manager of Aurizon Holdings, a company known for providing ore freight transport for the mining industry, won the award for Social Leader of the Year.
