BHP drives e-learning technology

AUSTRALIA’S largest mining companies are driving safety innovation through stringent occupational health and safety strategies.

BHP Billiton, in partnership with Lesley Wemyss Training Consultancy has developed an industry e-learning demonstration designed to build safety awareness amongst employees and contractors.

The system will manage the dangers of ‘working at heights’, ‘working in confined spaces’, and ‘using self contained breathing apparatus’, according to BHP Billiton health, safety and environment leader Wayne Panagis.

“The flexible nature of e-learning made it an ideal choice to complement the traditional training delivered to all global operations,” Panagis said.

“Training courses are labour intensive, and many hours are needed to provide face to face programs to many different sites.”

“The demonstration has been designed so it can be used by all companies involved in mining and other industries that are exposed to the same potential workplace dangers.”
