MINING companies must communicate with suppliers to better meet equipment needs, according to Construction & Mining Equipment Industry Group (CMEIG) CEO John Reid.
Reid told Australian Mining that a high level of ongoing communication between mining companies, contractors and equipment suppliers to meet demand was needed over the next three to four years.
“Communication is working well among several major mining companies, but there needs to be a greater sharing of forward plans on all items of machinery and associated equipment, so equipment manufacturers can gear up to satisfy demand,” he said.
“While the current mining boom is expected to continue for some years all players need to plan for the long-term to ensure the peaks and troughs of demand are not excessive.”
Reid’s call precedes what is anticipated to be the single largest display in Australia of mining equipment, technology, services and support at Asia-Pacific’s International Mining Exhibition ‘AIMEX 2007’ from 4 to 7 September at Sydney Olympic Park.
