Bechtel will be holding a recruitment drive over the next days in Gladstone as they amp up their search for local workers for their LNG project.
The company say they want to employ as many locals as possible, and the Bechtel recruitment team will we hitting shopping centres over the coming days to look for skilled people to join their team, Gladstone Observer reported.
Recruitment supervisor Joel Herbert said more than 4000 of the current workforce was local residents.
"With a total workforce of more than 8000, we are by far the biggest employer in the region and by far the biggest employer of locals in the region," he said.
"The current trades we are specifically targeting are riggers, crane operators, pipe fitters, boiler maker/welders and special class welders," Herbert said.
"We're looking for these people right now and our need for people in these fields will increase significantly through the first half of 2013.
"We are also on the hunt for mechanical and electrical trade assistants and labourers to complement our trade roles."
In November, the company announced they would be looking to hire between100 and 150 new workers each week to build its gas plants on Curtis Island off Gladstone.
Currently Bechtel is running three major projects, including Australian Pacific LNG, Gladstone LNG and Queensland Curtis LNG.
QCLNG is expected to be completed in 2014, while the other two should be up and running from 2015.
