One of Australia’s most productive mining regions is getting an event of its own, with HVME set to make its debut in the Hunter Valley in 2027.
Beneath the rolling hills and farmland of New South Wales’ Hunter region lies one of Australia’s most productive mining provinces.
Best known for its coal industry, the region is also home to a vast network of contractors, suppliers, technology providers and service companies that keep operations moving every day.
For generations, mining has helped shape the region’s identity, supporting local communities, powering industries and creating thousands of jobs across the supply chain.
In May 2027, the industry will have a fresh opportunity to come together with the inaugural Hunter Valley Mining Expo (HVME) arriving in Newcastle.
Among the companies backing the first HVME is platinum sponsor Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia, which has had a long presence in the region’s mining sector.
“The HVME is uniquely positioned as the only dedicated mining exhibition held in the heart of the Hunter region itself,” Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia general manager mining sales Sean Ryan told Australian Mining.
The event will make its debut at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre on May 19–20, 2027, giving the region a dedicated forum to discuss the issues, opportunities and technologies shaping mining today.
HVME was developed in response to industry demand, with a focus on delivering practical solutions and industry connections for the broader New South Wales mining industry.
“We saw a clear need for a dedicated mining event for the Hunter Valley, a region that plays such a critical role in Australia’s resources sector,” Prime Creative Media mining events relationship manager Rebecca Todesco said.
“The scale, capability and future of this region deserve a platform that brings the industry together to connect, share knowledge and drive progress.”
The industry has wasted little time getting behind the event.
More than half of the exhibition space was booked within five weeks of launch, with major suppliers moving quickly to secure their place on the exhibition floor. And that early momentum has been supported by a growing list of sponsors spanning equipment, technology, engineering and industrial services, highlighting the breadth of industries that support mining.
With premium positions already filling quickly, the strong early response highlights the appetite for a dedicated mining event in the Hunter Valley.
“To see 60 per cent of the expo sold out so early is a strong endorsement from the industry,” Todesco said.
“It tells us that exhibitors and sponsors see real value in this new expo in the Hunter Valley region.”
The two-day event will consist of an exhibition and conference program that will focus on the issues shaping mining operations today, including operational efficiency, workforce development, logistics, safety and the technologies transforming modern mining.
Automation and digital mining systems are expected to also feature prominently as miners look to improve productivity, safety and performance across the scope of their operations.
For emerging professionals and businesses, HVME will offer an opportunity to build connections, gain industry insights and engage directly with mining decision-makers.
