Allegiance is prospector of the year

THE Association of Mining & Exploration Companies (AMEC) has awarded its 2007 Prospector of the Year award to Tony Howland-Rose, Lindsay Newnham and David Deitz of Allegiance Resources NL for the Avebury Nickel Discovery in Tasmania.

“All three persevered and somehow, together, found ways to continue with expensive and difficult nickel exploration despite the general market and industry scepticism about mineral exploration during the 1990s, nickel exploration in particular and large tonnage, low grade nickel in such a novel setting as 8 km west of Zeehan, Tasmania,” AMEC said.

Avebury Nickel Mine is already in production and the mill is about 50% constructed, with first shipments of nickel concentrates scheduled for early 2008.

Avebury has ore reserves total 3.35 million tonnes averaging 1.16% nickel or 39,000 tonnes of nickel.
