A CHINESE mining company is developing a Bauxite Mine and 1.8 Mtpa refinery at Aurukun.
Aluminium vice-president Lu Youqing said other Chinese companies are “keeping an eye” on the company’s interests in Australia.
“The project will be a dimension for other Chinese companies to step out (of China),” Lu said in an address to the Brisbane Mining Club.
Lu said Chalco was looking to Aurukun for potential mining and production operations.
The project includes a $3 billion bauxite mine in northwest Queensland, and an alumina refinery at Bowen, Townsville or Gladstone.
Dr Lu said a location is subject to a mining feasibility study.
