Wagners has secured the lead contractor role to deliver a quarry operations package worth at least $35 million for the Carmichael project in the Galilee Basin.
According to Adani, Toowoomba-based Wagners will build and operate the quarry, which will be about 160 kilometres outside Clermont.
Wagners will further deliver quarry materials for supporting infrastructure on the Carmichael mine and rail project, such as roads, camps, pads, dams and mine civil works.
The Carmichael project, which is a thermal coal mine and rail project, will transport coal from the Galilee Basin to Asia customers.
Carmichael project director David Boshoff said the company was delivering on its promises of jobs and works packages for regional Queensland.
“It’s great to see our commitments on jobs and contracts for regional Queensland now coming to life, and we are so pleased that the benefits are being spread far and wide across regional Queensland, now to Toowoomba,” Boshoff said.
After Martinus being awarded a $100 million rail laying contract and Decmil receiving a $40 million contract to build rail camps, Boshoff said Adani had awarded more than $500 million in contracts awarded for the Carmichael project.
Boshoff said it was reassuring to have Wagners onboard, given the contractor is a long-term partner of the Carmichael project and has a high level of experience and capability in operating quarries.
Wagners is renowned for expertise in developing and operating hard rock quarries, after commencing quarry operations 25 years ago.
