Operations have resumed at Resolute Mining’s Ravenswood and Evolution Mining’s Mt Carlton gold mines following Tropical Cyclone Debbie that hit the north Queensland coast this week.
Resolute Mining temporarily suspended operations upon news of the category four cyclone. The company said it crossed the north Queensland coastline near Airlie Beach before weakening as it moved inland.
“Ravenswood experienced strong winds, but was spared the destructive winds experience closer to the core of the weather system,” Resolute said.
“The company’s infrastructure has not been damaged and staff have returned to site.”
Operations resumed yesterday and Resolute confirmed that its quarterly gold production was not hampered by the minor suspension.
Evolution Mining also took precautions earlier this week in light of the cyclone, sending all personnel at its Mt Carlton site home.
Mt Carlton has now resumed operations, and the company said the site’s infrastructure received “no significant damage”, though access to the site is expected to be restricted for a short period of time.
Evolution Mining also sent a team, including mine rescue personnel, to assist with recovery efforts following the cyclone.
“Our thoughts are with the people of Queensland who have been affected by the cyclone, which include some of our own employees and their families,” Evolution’s executive chairman, Jake Klein, said.
Realm Resources’ Foxleigh coal mine also ceased the majority of mining operations as well as rail and port services for the Bowen Basin Coal Fields during the cyclone.
