$96 million Pilbara contract

Electrical engineering company O’Donnell Griffin Rail (OGR) has secured a $96.5 million contract for rail signalling and relocation with BHP Billiton Iron Ore, the company announced this week.

The project, Rapid Growth Project 5, will involve a total overhaul of BHP’s current rail signalling installations in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.

According to OGR, the overhaul is primarily aimed at upgrading the existing system to modern day technology and improving efficiency and transit times between mine and port.

“We are very pleased to be involved with Rapid Growth Project 5, especially given its importance to the ongoing mining focus in Western Australia,” OGR general manager David Howe said.

OGR has previously worked with BHP Billiton Iron Ore on its Rapid Growth Projects 2, 3 and 4.

The new contract begins immediately and is expected to run for the next 18 months.
