200 Ballarat jobs lost

Mining company Lihir Gold is set to axe 200 jobs at its Ballarat gold mine in Victoria, as the company looks to “streamline operations,” Lihir said in statement.

According to the company, the majority of the jobs to be lost will be contract workers, but around a third will be permanent staff.

The cuts, which will remove a major portion of Lihir’s 500-strong workforce at the mine, come after “mixed results” in the southern and central zones of the goldfield.
