Another miner buys in to marijuana

International Goldfields has joined the current trend of miners moving into medical marijuana after acquiring Winter Garden Biosciences.

It is acquiring an 85 per cent interest in the biosciences and pharmaceutical company based in Uruguay.

Junior miners in Australia and Canada have reportedly been turning to technology and medical marijuana companies to act as a vehicle for backdoor listing for what has been described a a potential $1 trillion market.

Earlier this year Capital Mining announced its intention to acquire nearly half of a Canadian medical marijuana manufacturer and distributor.

It has since announced that it will look to become Australia’s first domestic cannabis producer, setting its sights on growing in Tasmania, where medical opium is also grown.
